A man was murdered and two other people were wounded in a broad daylight stabbing on an East Village sidewalk Sunday evening, police said.
At around 5:45 p.m., authorities reported that a 38-year-old victim was tragically stabbed in the neck, a 52-year-old woman was wounded in the leg, and a 31-year-old man was knifed in the lower back between Avenue A and East 14th Street in Manhattan.
The 38-year-old man died from his wounds at Bellevue Hospital. The younger man’s condition has been reported to be stable, while the woman’s is critical.
Police reported that a 30-year-old man was arrested on the spot, but no formal accusations have been brought against him yet. Police did not immediately provide more details on the motive behind the attack, and it remains unclear if the victims were related.
“The situation on 14th St is out of control… It’s unacceptable to continue to have the conditions on the street remain status quo,” NYC Council Member Keith Powers commented, describing the neighborhood as “out of control”.
“We need every elected official and agency working to solve these problems: A dedicated NYPD presence to curb illicit activities, continued enforcement of illegal vendors, on-going attention to trash and sanitation cleanup, and more,” she added.
