New Yorkers are gearing up for primary elections, with early voting starting on Saturday, June 15, and running through Sunday, June 23. This period allows registered voters to cast their ballots ahead of Primary Day on June 25.
“Access to the ballot box is the foundational right of our democracy,” said New York Attorney General Letitia James, emphasizing the importance of voter participation and the support available through the state’s election protection hotline at (866) 390-2992.
Early voting sites may differ from Election Day locations, so it’s crucial to verify your polling place through the Board of Elections website. Voters in the five boroughs can also view their sample ballots online to prepare for the voting process.
Competitive races in various districts heighten the significance of this year’s primaries. Key contests include Rep. Jamaal Bowman facing Westchester County Executive George Latimer in the 16th Congressional District and Assemblymember Juan Ardila competing against union organizer Claire Valdez and City Council staffer Johanna Carmona in the 37th Assembly District.
For those preferring to vote by mail, absentee ballots can be requested in person at county board of elections offices until June 24. These ballots must be postmarked by June 25 and received by July 2 to be counted.
