In collaboration with AIRIcerca New York Chapter, Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò presents the New York Premier screening of the award-winning papa & dada, a documentary about families and love written and directed by Daniela Ambrosoli. The screening on April 17 at 6.30 pm will be followed by a Q&A with the director in conversation with Mark Shaw, photographer and filmmaker.
There’s no doubt that the modern idea of family is fundamentally changing. More and more same-sex couples are fulfilling their dreams of having children. This documentary shows what it’s like raising kids with two male parents. papa & dada was shot over a period of seven years in Italy, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, and the United States. Four couples discuss their desires for family, while sharing moments of their everyday lives. These families experience joys and challenges like any family might. The unconditional love they all share provides the pulse of the picture. An excerpt sums things up well: “Sexual orientation has nothing to do with raising a child. Being a parent simply means giving love. Period.”
Featuring performances by Boston Ballet dancer John Lam and music by Josh Knowles.
The documentary is in English, German, Italian with English subtitles
