During the Thursday afternoon rush hour a man was critically wounded in a shooting on a subway platform in Brooklyn.
According to the NYPD, police started receiving alarming calls just around 5pm claiming that a man was shot in the head in downtown Brooklyn, on the northbound G train platform at the Hoyt & Schermerhorn station. Reportedly, Michael Kemper, a 32-year-old man, boarded a northbound A train at the Nostrand Avenue stop at about 4:45 pm. When the train left, he started arguing with a 36-year-old man who was being “aggressive and provocative”, according to The New York Times. After a verbal confrontation, the two began fighting physically and the suspect ended up pointing a gun at Kemper’s head. Trying to defend himself, the 32-year-old got hold of the gun and shot the other several times.
Police immediately intervened and took into custody the person of interest who was carrying the gun. It is unknown at this time whether the shooting was a case of self-defense. Meanwhile, the victim was seriously injured and taken to Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, where he is undergoing surgery.
The MTA announced several delays, because the investigation is still ongoing and the area has been closed down. G trains are skipping the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station in both directions. C trains are suspended and A trains are disrupted until further notice.
