Law enforcement in New York City are on the lookout for a man who murdered a woman in her own room at a Manhattan hotel.
Denisse Oleas-Arancibia, who was 38-years-old, was found on February 8th by a housekeeper working at the SoHo 54 Hotel on Watts Street.
Police reported that the suspected man was spotted leaving the hotel after attacking Denisse, reportedly wearing her leggings as his own pants were too bloody from the murder.
Preliminary evidence suggests that it was a homicide and a fight could have taken place before the murder. Police sources reported that an iron covered in blood was found near Denisse and she had injuries to her head and all over the rest of her body. Plastic fragments were embedded in her head, indicating the level of violence she endured, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.
The authorities were alerted to her disappearance when her son filed a missing persons report in Queens, where she resided. After the investigation proceeded, the SoHo 54 Hotel staff made the grim discovery in the 11th-floor room at around 10:30 a.m. on February 8th.
“We have the video of the woman, arriving at the location, wearing a distinct pair of leggings. And later on, we have a male, leaving the hotel, wearing the same leggings. And we also have a pair of male pants in the hotel room,” Officer Kenny stated.
He also disclosed that investigators have been able to track the suspect’s movements through Denisse’s credit card and Metro Card transactions, which the suspect reportedly stole and has been using.
Denisse stayed at the SoHo hotel semi-frequently, even though she lived in Queens. Some have speculated that she could have been an escort. Her son told investigators that she worked in Manhattan for an unknown man.
Now, police are tasked with finding the suspected man in this ongoing investigation.
