An out-of-control motorist injured at least five people, including three police officers, in Midtown Manhattan early Monday morning, only a few streets from Times Square’s New Year’s Eve festivities.
The incident occurred near 7th Avenue and West 34th Street at roughly 1:30 a.m., according to the NYPD. The scene is only ten streets away from the location where tens of thousands of revellers had been watching the New Year’s Eve ball drop an hour and a half earlier.
Officials were reportedly attempting to break up a fight when a man drove off, hitting three officers and other police cars. According to authorities, one cop was hospitalized with minor injuries while the other two were treated on the spot.
A woman was reportedly pushed against a food truck by the driver, who was also hurt. Both were sent to Bellevue Hospital, the NYPD said.
None of the injured is in critical condition, according to authorities.
