Brooklyn’s Coney Island has long considered a popular warm-weather getaway from New York City’s hustle and bustle. Starting this year, however, the beachfront carnival is expected to last into the winter months as the 120-year-old attraction has announced an extended season.
Unveiling the breakthrough was the so-called “Frost Fest”, a festival lasting from November 18 up until January 7. The park will be open on weekends, select weekdays, and holidays. Two new seasonal attractions are scheduled to debut: Santa’s “tour through the North Pole” and picture ops, priced at $24.99, and Rudolph’s ice skating rink, priced at $24.99 a ticket.
“We are honored and thrilled to have another opportunity to make history with the Coney Island Community and the City of New York to deliver the best open air entertainment experience in NYC, by offering a winter destination in south Brooklyn,” said Alessandro Zamperla, President and CEO of Central Amusement International Inc. in a press release reported by the New York Post. “Frost Fest extends our season beyond Halloween and will create a wonderful winter experience in the Coney Island Amusement District for our community and guests from around the world.”
New Yorkers’ favorite beach will also host a Christmas market with a variety of attractions, such as “Luna’s Apple Orchard” and “Coney’s Cocoa Corner.” There will be more than 20 rides available at the theme park, including the well-known Cyclone roller coaster.
