If you’re looking for a spooky Halloween adventure, you might be just a click – and a few miles – away from getting it.
The Fainting Goat Island Inn in Nichols, located in New York State’s Southern Tier, ranked first on USA Today’s list of the nation’s most haunted hotels for the second consecutive year.
The 1850 inn with five bedrooms is located halfway between Elmira and Binghamton and is a stop on the New York Haunted History Trail. According to USA Today, visitors have purportedly seen a variety of ghosts roaming the premises, including two women who were having tea in the Fainting Room.
The state has several spooky hotels besides this one. The Hotel Saranac at Saranac Lake was also ranked third on the list. According to its website, the hotel in the Adirondacks next to Lake Placid was constructed in the Roaring Twenties and is a member of the Historic Hotels of America, an official initiative of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
A young girl on the fourth floor, singing on the sixth floor, and scratching sounds on the third level are just a few of the sightings that have been reported there. It was constructed on the site of a former high school, and residents have reported seeing the spirit of the headmaster of the institution roaming the grounds.
