The gruesome mystery that yesterday shocked the wealthy area of the Upper West Side, Manhattan, is clearing up. According to the police, the father (41) allegedly stabbed to death his 40-year-old wife and their two kids, aged 2 and 1, before killing himself inside their apartment at 328 West 86th Street, between West End and Riverside Drive. The reasons are still unclear.
The murder-suicide hypothesis is currently the most credible. According to the police, the door was locked from the inside and there was no sign of a break-in. Once they got in, they recovered several knives from the crime scene, but one, in particular, was next to the father’s corpse who was lying on the bed of his bedroom.
It all started Monday afternoon, before 3 pm, when the New York Police Department received a call from the woman’s father and another relative, who is the superintendent of a nearby building, for a wellness check on the family. The two claimed that they hadn’t heard from them since Sunday morning and nobody had answered when they had drilled out the lock of the apartment.

Upon arrival, officers found the two young boys in the living room with several stab wounds and two knives nearby. They were so covered in blood that police at first declared the oldest was a girl. The woman’s body was found in the hallway with a deep injury in the neck.
According to the police, the man had no criminal history and there was no prior record of police being called to the family’s apartment.
