An obsessed fan busted for allegedly stalking Drew Barrymore at her Long Island farmhouse was set free on Friday by a judge.
43-year-old Chad Michael Busto was warned by Judge Barbara Wilson to stay away from the actress, a Southampton court source said.
He was charged with fourth-degree stalking, which is a crime no longer bail-eligible due to 2019 legislation forbidding the practice for many misdemeanors.
Busto was fitted with a GPS ankle tag to monitor his location. He told the judge he was essentially penniless and living in a shelter, according to the Daily Mail.
He also asked if he could travel out of state for a hearing in Texas on September 3rd, though details of that case were not immediately clear. He is supposed to be due back in court in Southampton on September 12th.
Busto was arrested Wednesday after while trying to track Barrymore down in her Southampton neighborhood, according to law enforcement sources.
The apprehension came two days after he rushed the stage at an event hosted by Barrymore in Manhattan, where he was stopped by a bodyguard as Barrymore was rushed off stage.
Busto has been arrested in Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, and California for a plethora of crimes: disorderly conduct, indecent exposure, trespassing and others, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press.
