The NYPD has identified the shirtless man tragically stabbed to death outside of a Brooklyn gas station on Saturday night.
Police stated the altercation started outside a Mobil gas station in Midwood at around 11:15 PM. A man seen on surveillance video wearing black shorts exited Bolla Market after apparently seeing a group of friends dancing. He allegedly made comments towards them, which sparked an argument that ended with a 28-year-old man, identified as Sibley Oshae, being fatally stabbed. Oshae was known to be a part of the local ballroom community, which is made up predominantly of LGBTQ+ men of color. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force says it is investigating the killing.
“He was just a fun-loving, beautiful person, like, energetic. He was very protective of his family, like, all he promoted was just love,” one friend said to CBS News.
Summy Ullah, 32, who witnessed the stabbing, believes the killing was motivated by homophobia. Apparently the killer said the dancing was offensive to his Muslim faith.
No arrests have been made.
