The wait is almost over: the first Wegmans supermarket in Manhattan is officially opening on Oct. 18, at 9 AM, as announced by the well-known chain in a statement last Thursday.
The 82,000 square foot store will be inaugurated in the basement of 770 Broadway in Greenwich Village, at the junction of Astor Place and Lafayette Street. The business claims to have employed around 600 staff members for the new site, which is housed inside the iconic Wannamaker Building.
“We know our customers can’t wait to come see what we have in store and our employees have been training, in some cases, for over a year to get ready for this day,” said store manager Matt Dailor. “Wegmans is a celebration of food and people, and we can’t wait to open the doors on October 18 to our community.”
According to the business, the service will include “made-to-order and packaged Mezze options, inspired by a Mediterranean diet, as well as “fresh sushi, fresh-made salads, sandwiches, hot sandwiches, soups, pizza, wings, as well as hot Asian cuisine options,” in addition to shopping alternatives.
A recent Food & Wine list of America’s greatest grocery stores ranked Wegmans as #2 in the country. The company already has one site in Brooklyn that debuted in 2019.
