The New York Post has an in-depth look at a street in Corona, Queens, that the paper has discovered is New York City’s “boldest open-air market for sex — one so popular with pervs that it’s advertised on YouTube.”
The paper reports nearly a dozen brothels have set up shop along Roosevelt Avenue near Junction Boulevard. They also said one of their own reporters was solicited during the day on sidewalks where there were children and non-sexual merchants. And apparently, the brothels are working in concert to hide their activities, alerting each other of the media’s presence.
One sex worker apparently offered a “happy ending” massage for $40 and another offered “full-body massages” for $80.
Mothers told The Post that the women loiter in front of pool halls, dentists’ offices, and massage parlors 24/7, and even recruit neighborhood kids to hand out their X-rated business cards.
Experts say it’s the perfect storm, per The Post; vulnerable migrant women unable to legally work are flooding the city, while local prominent district attorneys have chosen to halt prosecuting sex workers.
On Thursday, leaders of Queens North went to Compstat at Police Plaza to discuss with NYPD leadership what to do about the sex trade problems in Corona. Though not yet identified as a pressing issue here, human trafficking is a huge concern with regard to the booming sex work industry of the area.
This area has had a recent history of vice, as well, especially during the pandemic.
