Print Center New York is pleased to invite applications to the second cycle of New Voices, the Center’s annual open call program. New Voices provides opportunities for a curator-selected cohort of six to eight artists to present their work and develop their practices through a group exhibition, artist-led public programming, focused conversation and community-building, and individualized resources for artistic and professional development.
Led by independent curator Olivia Shao, this cycle of New Voices asks artists to consider their work through the lens of ritual. Ritual plays a fundamental and often unacknowledged role in our everyday lives. Through the transformation of materials and the enactment of processes in one’s practice, what are ways that ritual intersects with art-making, performance, and life? What new forms can arise through concerted repetition and a focus on process? How can we be increasingly aware of these ideas and what emerging language do they convey about the world today? In this broad proposal, we encourage artists to consider new ways of working that go beyond traditional ideas of print.
Full program details, including information on the application process and the expectations of selected artists are available on Print Center New York’s website. Applications are due by September 8, 2023.
New Voices is generously supported by the Wolf Kahn Foundation and the Emily Mason | Alice Trumbull Foundation with the establishment of the Emily Mason – Wolf Kahn Artist Development Fund which fosters connections and advancement within the contemporary printmaking community and support artists’ professional development opportunities with cohorts, critics, gallerists, printers, and publishers.
