People coming to see the Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect’s house will be fined $150 if reported by Long Island residents.
According to the Guardian, Long Island residents gathered Monday at Massapequa Park Village Hall, where Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder discussed the bustling atmosphere surrounding suspect Rex Heuermann’s home.
“The county executive has made it very clear that we are protecting the neighborhood and we are not allowing this to turn into a side-show,” Ryder reportedly said.
“If you don’t live on that street or visit someone on that street and are there to stop and take pictures and break the law you will be issued a summons… no questions asked.”
Ryder added that police will erect “erect” cameras and will monitor the area. The search at Rex Heuermann’s home ended on Tuesday after a dozen-day effort.
Some Massapequa Park residents, the publication reported, complained at the meeting that so many people arriving has led to their driveways being blocked, their lawns destroyed, and trash scattered in the area. They’ve resorted to various efforts to deter tourists in the past, but perhaps a fine will finally do the trick.
