The Foreign Policy Association (FPA) organized an elegant dinner gala at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City to recognize and honor three remarkable individuals who have made significant contributions in their respective fields. The event saw the presentation of prestigious medals to Nadia Calvino, Dr. Sean M. Decatur, and Dr. Felix V. Matos Rodriguez.
Nadia Calvino, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation of Spain, was awarded a medal for her contributions to economic development and digital transformation. Calvino has played a pivotal role in shaping Spain’s economic policies, advocating for innovation and sustainability in the digital realm. Her vision and leadership have earned her international acclaim, making her a deserving recipient of this prestigious award.
“Some say we should delay the energy transition,” Calvino said, “we are witnessing the war in Ukraine and the economic crisis, but it is in this context that the transition is necessary. We must find feasible ways to achieve sustainable goals. In recent years we have faced unpredictable events, but not all the situations we are experiencing are unprecedented. Pandemics, wars and economic crises have happened before, so we should look back and learn from the past”.

Dr. Sean M. Decatur, the President of the American Museum of Natural History, was recognized for his remarkable efforts in advancing scientific research, education, and public engagement. Dr. Decatur’s commitment to fostering a greater understanding of our natural world has been instrumental in inspiring future generations of scientists and environmental stewards. Through his innovative initiatives and strategic leadership, he has made a profound impact on the field of natural history. “Not everyone knows that the museum has a staff committed to trying to solve the world’s big problems. They work in laboratories, study and do research. Our museum has contributed to the battle against Covid and is preparing for the next emergencies we will face”, stressed Dr. Decatur.
Dr. Felix V. Matos Rodriguez, the Chancellor of the City University of New York (CUNY), was honored for his exceptional contributions to higher education and his dedication to fostering inclusive and accessible academic opportunities. Under Dr. Matos Rodriguez’s leadership, CUNY has continued to provide quality education to a diverse student body, empowering individuals from all backgrounds to achieve their academic and professional aspirations. “The FPA medal recognises CUNY’s commitment to spreading knowledge about international affairs. I accept this award not only for the work done, but as an inspiration to do more and do it better”.
The medals were presented by Noel V. Lateef, the President and CEO of the Foreign Policy Association who embodies the organization’s commitment to promoting international understanding and engagement, Henry A. Fernandez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of MSCI Inc., and Sana H. Sabbagh, Vice-Chairman of the Foreign Policy Association.
