It has been well documented that COVID-19 was the Grim Reaper for many small businesses nationwide, particularly restaurants. Thousands of them in New York have either closed or moved out, and the fallout is still being felt. As of Friday, April 7th, four more closed their doors (or closed a set of doors) for the final time:
Tasty Bagels in Bensonhurst closed on April 2nd after four decades according to Brooklyn Paper. The bakery announced the closure via an Instagram post with no stated reason, just saying that, “All good things come to an end.”
Ursula, a New Mexican establishment in Crown Heights, closed its 724 Sterling Place location on April 2nd. Luckily, it is reopening at an expanded storefront in Bed-Stuy on the 12th.
East Village: Captain Cookie & the Milk Man, a cookie company with locations in DC and Raleigh is leaving New York City behind. “We have taken a step back from retail after our past year of serving East Village and Times Square,” a company spokesperson tells EV Grieve. They’ve been in the Big Apple since last April.
Seasoned Vegan, an uptown Harlem vegan place went out with a party on April 1st. It will shutter its 55 St. Nicholas Avenue address to focus on delivery and takeout in a East Village location. They’ve operated for 9 years.
