This is Fred Tuman: commercial photographer with boundless humor. A real New Yorker to the bone.
We have been close friends and “partners in crime” (mostly photographic) since about 1981–when we met shortly after my return from Rome. This portrait was shot in 1983.
He had a particularly pernicious type of cancer that was serious, in fact, terminal. He tried to hide this but I knew of it. He fought till the end – his doctors not so much – but that’s another story. He’s remembered by a loving family and close friends. No lie, this is how it was and will be.
