New York Fashion Week is a bi-annual event that generates over $2 million in economic activity for New York City and attracts over 1 million unique visitors.
NYFW runs from Thursday, February 8th to Friday, February 16th, 2018. Men’s Fashion Week will begin Monday, February 5th to Wednesday, February 7th, 2018. There are numerous shows taking place around the city, not all of them are open to the public you need to be part of the elite fashion world in order to attend.
The most famous fashion designers from all over the world will showcase their creativity presenting their collections at Spring Studios (6 St John Ln) with some shows at Industria.
The masses can, also, gather fashion inspiration from the glamourous style seen off runway; it showcases trends in true ready-to-wear fashion, as opposed to runway looks that focus on a higher fantasy visual.
This season will be delightfully more sophisticated, colorful and very wearable. If you’ve been observing 2017 Fashion Week, you have probably noticed that some designers chose a different approach to fashion, opting to use “real” people to kill it on the catwalk. because they feel personal style is so important to this concept, breaking the typical model mold.
Here is a summary of what we expect to see, even as we look back on last season:
The ’80s are back! although more casual than the past seasons. One of the most “audacious” trends is the exposed hip. The designers presented dizzying looks on the international catwalks…from high-cut overalls to low-waisted pants.
2018 is certainly characterized by vivid and gaudy colors. High fashion brands have chosen fabrics in bright red and flamboyant shades.
The socks are no longer a taboo, in fact we find them combined with décolleté and sandals that show them in all their glory, also bright colors are welcome.
While floral dresses are a trend we can always count on, even if the new year brings with it a more graphic and large-scale approach to the model.
Michael Kors features at 2018 NYFW. Kors knows best what women want to wear at any occasions. He knows how to make casual wear work for a simple city life; starting from special events, to meetings or more casual nights out with friends.
Ralph Lauren 2018 NYFW Collection is all about high fashion and vintage cars. This season RL runway has been transformed into a garage, where are showcased some of the most expensive vehicle brands. One of them is a $40 million Bugatti from 1938. The trend this season is colorful but traditional and modern.
The ex pop spice Victoria Beckham is hosting some private shows at the James Burden Mansion on the Upper East Side in occasion of her label’s 10th anniversary. Other designers are adopting similarly intimate formats with a more low-key approach. Lela Rose for examples will do an Instagram “show.” Rose has chosen to engage with her followers directly from social medias. Calvin Klein packed his front row full of celebrities, which included Jake Gyllenhaal, Mahershala Ali, Brooke Shields, Millie Bobby Brown, and Paris Jackson.
I have a feeling NYFW will have even more surprises in store for us! Check back for the first round of shows.
