- Adams Sounds Off on Lightfoot: Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams called Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s failed reelection campaign a “warning sign” to the country in terms of safety. Many of the criticisms of Lightfoot’s term revolved around her response to crime in the city. Adams, referring to himself, said “Eric Adams has been talking about public safety, not only on the campaign trail, but for the first year. I showed up at crime scenes. I knew what New Yorkers were saying. And I saw it all over the country. I think, if anything, it is really stating that this is what I have been talking about. America, we have to be safe.”
- Woman Shot Dead at the Jersey Shore: New Jersey police are investigating the case of a woman who was found shot dead in Somers Point, New Jersey. According to investigators, at about 7:30 AM on Saturday officers responded to a call in the town to find an as-of-yet unidentified woman suffering from a gunshot wound in a home. Police said she succumbed to her wound, and officials do not believe there is a continued threat to the public.
- NYC Tap Water Getting a Temporary New Taste: Starting Monday, New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection will be increasing the amount of water coming from the Croton Watershed, which is a cluster of 12 reservoirs in Westchester and Putnam counties. The move was done to fuel the city’s supply, and officials say the move will result in a slight taste difference due to the different systems being used. This change comes as part of prep work for the repair of the Delaware Aqueduct; the giant tunnel shuts down annually for two weeks in March to address leaks.
- One Dead and Emergency Landing in Connecticut: A Marylander died after the plane they were on encountered “severe” turbulence in Connecticut skies. Dana Hyde, 55, was rushed to St. Francis Medical Center in Hartford after the plane landed at Bradley International Airport, officials said. The Federal Aviation Administration and NTSB will investigate the incident. Two other passengers and two crew members were also aboard the Virginia-bound plane.
- NHL: Devils Top Coyotes in Overtime: The New Jersey Devils got a huge win on the road over the Arizona Coyotes by a score of 5-4 in overtime last night. 23 seconds into extra time was when Nico Hischier scored the game-winning goal. Jesper Boqvist scored twice and Damon Severson added a goal; new acquisition Timo Meier also scored once in his Devils debut. The victory extends the Devil’s point streak to five games and ties them with the Carolina Hurricanes for most Metropolitan Division wins with 41.
- NBA: Knicks Dazzle in Triumph over Celtics: Once again, the New York Knicks impressed the entire NBA with a 131-129 win over the Boston Celtics in double overtime. RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, and Immanuel Quickley combined for a whopping 98 points to give New York their 9th consecutive victory. With 39 wins the Knicks are firmly knocking on the door of the 4th seed in the Eastern Conference being just one game behind.
- NBA: Nets Thrash Hornets: It was a solid night for the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays last night, as they bested the Charlotte Hornets 102-86. Mikal Bridges continued his uptick in scoring since landing in Brooklyn, pouring in 33 points to lead all scorers, his second straight 30-point performance. The win keeps the Nets in a comfortable spot in the standings, though the space between them and the Knicks remains somewhat wide.
