More than 400 products sold by the Fresh Ideation Food Group of Baltimore from Jan 24 through 30 were recalled because they could be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The at-risk products include items such as bacon, egg and cheddar muffins, breakfast croissants, tuna and chicken sandwiches and fruit cups.
The recalled products were sold in retail locations and vending machines in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to the federal Food and Drug Administration.
Although healthy people might suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
