Is there a new LP coming after a long drought from The Rolling Stones?
Mick Jagger is one of the most iconic rock stars of all time, a living legend who shows no signs of stopping. He has inspired generations of musicians and fans with his talent, style, and passion. At the incredible age of 80, he is still performing because he loves what he does, and he does it like no one else.
Mick has released 30 studio albums, 23 live albums, 25 compilation albums, and countless singles with the band, as well as four solo albums and collaborations with other artists. But there has been no new album since 2016 “Blue & Lonesome”, a collection of old-school blues covers. The previous studio album containing original material from the band was 2005’s “A Bigger Bang”. In the time between that album and the present, the Stones have only released three original songs: ‘Doom and Gloom’ and ‘One More Shot’, both from the greatest hits compilation GRRR!, along with the 2020 track ‘Living in a Ghost Town’.
Now Reuters reports that there are hints that a new LP may be in the offing very soon.
The band’s representatives say “no comment” but the fans’s hopes have been raised by an innocuous-looking advert in a small London newspaper heralding a new glass repair store called “Hackney Diamonds”.
The brightly colored promotion in the Hackney Gazette said the business was established in 1962 – the same year the Rolling Stones formed – and the new store would open in September.
They sound like clues to a mystery, but one that Stones’ fans think is pretty clear. “Our friendly team promises you satisfaction. When you say gimme shelter we’ll fix your shattered windows,” the advert said in the newspaper’s Aug. 17 edition, referencing some of the group’s best-known hits.
It directs readers to a website where users are asked to register their interest, with privacy terms signed off by the groups’ label Universal Music Group (UMG).
“The Rolling Stones are poking fun at themselves,” read one message on the Facebook fan page The Rolling Stones Sessions. “Creative publicity has started on the long-awaited new album.”
“I am one of those fans that craves new music, so I just can’t wait to hear the album. I’m really excited and ready,” wrote Jack Q Frost Jnr on messaging site Reddit.
Last year, The Rolling Stones marked their 60th anniversary with a European tour, covering 10 countries including Britain.
Despite his age, Mick still has the moves, energy and charisma to rock the stage with his bandmates. And continues to be the perennial “bad boy” of rock.
So, is there a new LP forthcoming or is that crazy advert just a tease? Time will tell.
