The municipality of Milan is dedicating the garden in Piazza Grandi to sisters Angela and Luciana Giussani, creators of the iconic Diabolik character. On June 15th, a ceremony to name the garden after the Milanese sisters has been planned with the participation of cultural councilor, Tommaso Sacchi, of Mario Gomboli, director of the publishing house Astorina, and of Claudia Sozzani, the heiress of the Giussanis.
Angela and Luciana invented Diabolik, whose 60th anniversary is being celebrated this year, in 1962. June 10th will be an important date for Astorina, given it will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Angela Giussani (1922-1987). To celebrate the event, three monthly magazines, (a previously unpublished Diabolik, out on the first day of the month, and reprints of Diabolik R, out on June 10th, as well as Diabolik Swiisss on June 20th) will include 16 extra pages dedicated to photos of the “mother” of Diabolik and recollections of those who knew her.
The seventh edition of Diabolik Magnum will also be published on June 10th with the title Cento volte in gioco. The volume will open with a 32-page special dedicated to Angela, which will propose a never-published interview given to Gianni Bono in 1973 with old photos and testimony by those who worked with her.
The never-published Diamanti nei diamanti will be out on July 1st, while on July 8th the extraordinary reprint of one of the most beloved episodes, Diabolik, chi sei? (1968), has been scheduled. Together with the comic will be included two diabolik decks of poker playing cards with designs by Riccardo Nunziati.
