MedFilm Festival has announced that its 28th edition will be held November 9-20, 2022 in Rome. The festival, it said, will be both online and in person with “twelve days centred on the diffusion and the promotion of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cinema, but not only”.
The festival is the longest-running film festival in the Italian capital and includes “professional meetings, university master classes, encounters with young talents and great masters of cinema, literature presentations, and conferences on today’s most burning issues”, according to the festival’s website. Submissions are open until July 30, exclusively via Filmfreeway (https://filmfreeway.com/
There will the the regular competitions of MedFilm Festival, with the Official Competition for works from the Mediterranean and Middle East, as well as the Eros and Psyche Award worth 2,000 euros and the Special Jury Award worth 1,000. Short films will be eligible for the Methexis Award worth 1,000 euros.
There will also be “THE PEARLS: The new Italian cinema”, a non-competitive section dedicated to independent Italian productions: long, medium and short fiction film or documentaries, as well as Lux Film Days in Rome, Glances from the Future, and Voices from the Jails. Special Awards remain: the VALENTINA PEDICINI AWARD – Best First and Second Film Award; the LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD for a protagonist of international cinema; KOINÉ AWARD; AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS AWARD; and the CERVANTES AWARD ROME. For the 3rd edition of the WIPS – MEDFILM WORKS IN PROGRESS, the competition is open for works in post-productions from the countries of the Mediterranean region with the OIM Prize (10,000 Euro) and the Stadion Video Prize (3,500 euros) The call will open from the 30th of May to the 30th of July.
The direction of MedFilm Festival will communicate the selected works before the 10th of October, and the official list will be published on the website before the 30th of October 2022, according to the website: medfilmfestival.org.
