Four-time Emmy® Award-winning travel series, Bare Feet with Mickela Mallozzi, kicks off its Season 3 on NYC Life where Host & Professional Dancer, Mickela Mallozzi, experiences the world one dance at a time. This season takes viewers on a personal journey, following Mallozzi as she discovers the dance and music from destinations based on her own DNA map.
In the Bare Feet Season 3 premiere, Mallozzi heads to Puglia, Italy, to learn the ancient therapeutic dance and music of la pizzica. She joins world-renowned pizzica band, Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino, on a journey of self-discovery in a part of Italy that has Turkish and Greek influence, a beautiful representation of Mickela’s own DNA results.
“Mickela and her Bare Feet series have been an integral part of NYC Life’s programming schedule for more than five years now.” says Janet Choi, General Manager of NYC Media, the parent organization of NYC Life. “We are thrilled to debut this newest season exclusively on our channel, allowing New Yorkers to get the first glance at Mickela’s latest, richly colorful, cultural journeys.”
DNA Travel has been listed as a Top Travel Trend in 2019 by Lonely Planet, making this a highly- anticipated season for travel enthusiasts. “This new season is a very personal one for me because I’m tracing my own roots through dance and music, using my DNA map as a guide,” says Mallozzi. “I started preparing for this almost two years ago, testing my DNA and planning the routes of this new season based on the findings.”
Mallozzi herself is a first generation Italian-American, knowing only of her Italian ancestry prior to DNA testing. Her goal with Bare Feet Season 3 is to shed light on the diversity of one’s own DNA makeup while also using the arts to connect with diverse cultures. “I want to inspire other travelers with this new season, for them to consider taking their own personal DNA journey,” adds Mallozzi. “It’s honestly been a life-changing experience for me.”
Highlights of Mallozzi’s DNA dance encounters from the upcoming 12 episodes in the new season include: Dancing with the prestigious Sukhishvili Georgian National Ballet in Tbilisi, Georgia; discovering Oriental Dance in an ancient amphitheater in Kurion, Cyprus; learning flamenco from legendary dancer Cristina Hoyos in Seville, Spain; dancing with a Berber tribe outside of Fes, Morocco; singing with third-generation matchmaker Willie Daly at the Matchmaking Festival in Lisdoonvarna, Ireland.
