It started as a giveaway event, it turned into a huge riot. In Manhattan’s Union Square Park, hundreds of young people and adults gathered for a giveaway announced by Twitch live streamer influencer, Kai Cenat, 21, who has 5.9 followers and 2,663 million views on Youtube. But it evolved into a massive riot: some are throwing objects and building barricades against NYPD officers who intervened to disperse the crowds. Many people are reportedly injured.
Mr. Cenat has been taken into custody. At this point it’s not known whether charges will be brought against him or whether he has been taken in custody for his own protection.
Currently 6 or 7 MTA trains are bypassing the 14th Street subway stop which has been closed in an attempt to control the situation.
