If you’re lucky enough to live in the Northeast but have never visited the Berkshire Mountains, you don’t know what you’re missing. This summer Amtrak will make an exploration of the stunning beauty of the area easy for you with its Berkshire Flyer, taking you from New York City to the Berkshires, every weekend.
The Berkshire area is a picturesque tapestry of rolling hills and serene landscapes that offers a tranquil retreat from the relentless pace of the city. Nestled in Western Massachusetts, this natural gem is a mosaic of green forests, meandering rivers, and quaint towns. It’s a place with a rich history of artists and writers who have long sought refuge and inspiration there.
After a successful pilot program, the Berkshire Flyer is made possible thanks to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT). Rail service will depart NYC’s Penn Station June 21 through September 2.
“Amtrak is pleased to offer the Berkshire Flyer between New York City and the Berkshires once again after last summer’s successful launch” said Amtrak Vice President State Supported Services Ray Lang. “Thanks to our partners at MassDOT, NYSDOT and CSX, customers can enjoy a sustainable and relaxing weekend trip with great weather and beautiful scenery all season long.”
Its seasonal service will give New Yorkers a chance to explore all of the exciting summer activities Massachusetts has to offer. “The Berkshires have plenty to offer in the arts, culture, history, and hospitality, and the Berkshire Flyer provides accessible, convenient travel for those who wish to visit, creating a catalyst for regional economic growth and sustainability,” said Congressman Richard E. Neal.
The Berkshire Flyer will feature the same amenities as all other Amtrak trains.

The entire trip from NYC to the Berkshires will take around 4 hours, as the line will make numerous stops along the way at Yonkers, NY, Croton-Harmon, NY, Poughkeepsie, NY, Rhinecliff, NY, Hudson, NY, and Albany-Rensselaer Station.
And, for the first time, the Berkshire Flyer includes an additional train traveling from Manhattan to Pittsfield on Sunday mornings.
