Just one day after filing a lawsuit in New York Federal Court against media powerhouse Sean Combs, accusing him of assault, rape and sex trafficking her during their personal relationship, R&B singer Cassie said they have settled it.
Combs, also known by his stage names Puff Daddy, P. Diddy, or Diddy, entered into a relationship with Cassie, whose real name is Cassandra Ventura, in 2007. They were on-again-off-again for nearly a decade, calling it quits for the last time in 2018.
The complaint said that Cassie first met Diddy when she was 19 and he was 37, and he had just signed her to his label Bad Boy Records.
She alleged that before long he had “complete control” over her life and when he pursued a relationship with her, she agreed because she feared retaliation if she denied him, per the complaint.
“All aspects of Ms. Ventura’s life were controlled by either Mr. Combs or his management companies,” the complaint said.
The complaint also alleged that Diddy could be physically abusive to her, once stomping on her face and forcing her to hide in a hotel room for a week until her bruises healed.
“She found herself becoming numb to the abuse she was experiencing, and became entirely beholden to Mr. Combs’s demands,” the complaint read. “She began to blindly follow his instructions out of fear of again being on the receiving end of a vicious beating.”
While the legal terms of the settlement have yet to be disclosed, we know that on Thursday afternoon, Cassie’s lawyer stated that Combs had offered her “eight figures” — or between $10 million and $99.9 million — to keep her from filing her lawsuit.
On the same day Combs’ lawyer Ben Brafman said Cassie demanded $30 million while threatening to write a book about their relationship. Combs strongly denies what he he called the suit’s “baseless and outrageous lies.”
Cassie’s legal team in a statement late Friday, said, “This evening, Ms. Ventura and Mr. Combs resolved the claims that she filed against him yesterday in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York to their mutual satisfaction.” He added that, “The parties will have no further statements beyond what is provided in this email.”
Both Combs and Cassie have said in separate prepared statements that they wished to resolve the matter amicably.
In his Combs said, “I wish Cassie and her family all the best” and signed off with “Love.”
