Ahead of the third to last race of the Formula 1, 2022 season, in Mexico City, Lewis Hamilton denied the rumors that his career was going to come to a halt at the end of the 2023 season. In an interview with Sky Sports UK, he declared that “this whole thing of retiring is always lingering around and honestly I don’t like the idea of it and I don’t feel like I’m near it.”
Rumors of Hamilton’s retirement stem from the fact that the driver at the age of 37, is one of oldest on the circuit, as well as the fact that in this season he did not achieve the results he wished for.
Hamilton claimed that he is planning to sign another multi-year contract with his long-time partnering team Mercedes AMG, as he thinks they still have a lot more work to do and championships to win.
Lewis Hamilton is arguably the most successful driver in the sport’s history and has contributed to making the sport what it is today. For this reason, he says that he is emphasizing how he wants to “[keep being] part of this shifting” that the sport is experiencing, in terms of audience, core values and mechanical excellence.
