Ukrainian social media users praised “undercover agent” Melania Trump for convincing her husband to take a stand against Putin after his apparent change of heart on Russia.
After a series of failed peace talks between the US and Russia, President Trump admitted during a press conference on Monday that it was the First Lady who played a key role in highlighting the hypocrisy of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly embarrassed the White House by saying one thing and doing another.
“We thought we had a deal numerous times”, explained the MAGA leader, “I get home, I’d say, ‘First Lady, I had the most wonderful talk with Vladimir. I think we’re finished.’ And then I’d turn on the television or she’ll say to me one time, ‘Well that’s strange because they just bombed a nursing home.’”
The revelation caused quite a stir in some pro-Ukrainian social media circles, and shortly after the announcement, an X user posted a photo of “Agent Melania Trumpenko” wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a jacket with the Ukrainian armed forces logo.
Similar images of the first lady wearing a Ukrainian military uniform, wrapped in the country’s blue and yellow flag, soon appeared. “Melania single-handedly doing more for Ukraine than the entire GOP,” added an X user.
“Melania Trump being the one to help prevent a complete abandonment of Ukraine from this admin is not what I expected but also tracks exactly with how Trump makes decisions,” wrote another user, referring to the opinion that the US leader tends to repeat the words of the last person he spoke to.
This is not the first time that the First Lady has spoken out in support of Ukraine. Although she does not usually speak publicly about politics, during Russia’s invasion in 2022, she urged her followers to donate to the Red Cross, describing the suffering of innocent people as “heartbreaking and horrific” and stating that her “thoughts and prayers” were with the Ukrainian people.
