An ABC7 report has revealed that federal agents in California urinated in broad daylight on a school campus. Several ICE and CBP officers in ten vehicles entered Salazar High School at 9115 Balfour Street in Pico RIvera and that, once inside, two of them allegedly urinated in the school’s outdoor spaces, on some storage containers near a playground area.
The events took place on a sun-filled morning, between 8:54 a.m. and 9:04 a.m. on June 17th, when the vehicles entered the school area, some of which were marked with agency symbols. The school, located near Los Angeles, was closed to regular classes, but summer classes were being held at an adjacent elementary school.
School board members called the matter “deeply disturbing.” The area where the officers urinated is also visible from a nearby public park, adding to the perception that the immigration authorities can and do act with apparent impunity.
Another video reveals that on the same day as the incident, immigration agents violently detained a 20-year-old in a nearby shopping center. The young man, a U.S. citizen named Adrian Martinez, now faces criminal charges for conspiracy to obstruct a federal agent, after allegedly trying to intervene while agents were detaining a mall janitor.
School leaders, meanwhile, are calling for a federal investigation into what took place . There is a lot of outrage over what appears to be yet another depiction of an ongoing moment in history.
“It’s not enough that for weeks they have been acting violently by ambushing people, now ICE and CBP agents are reportedly entering school campuses, pulling down their pants and urinating on playgrounds,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, who represents Pico Rivera. “It is a slap in the face to our communities—especially our children. I join the El Rancho Unified School District in calling for a full federal investigation into this incident.”
