The nationwide “Free America Weekend” is being organized by Women’s March, a grassroots organization of women outraged by Trump’s 2016 presidential win. The group urges those participating to host or join community events during the holiday weekend and emphasizes peaceful protesting strategies.
Women’s March outlines their goals on their website: “This July 4th, while the U.S. marks Independence Day, we’ll gather across the country—on porches, in town squares, backyards, and streets—to stand for real freedom and build a vision of a Free America brick by brick.”

The organization continues detailing their hopes for July Fourth, “Free America is wherever we are. Free America is whatever we make it. Host or join a July 4th Free America action—rallies, BBQs, marches, art builds, community block parties, and more to celebrate real freedom.”
“Free America” Protests align with other nationwide events that have occurred, condemning the Trump Administration and its policies. The 50501 movement, which stands for 50 protests, 50 states, one movement, has also taken charge in organizing the protests since Donald Trump took office again in January.
The upcoming July Fourth protest follows June 14th’s “No Kings Day,” which saw millions of people take to the streets. No Kings Day took place on the day of Donald Trump’s “birthday parade,” Washington D.C.’s military parade, which marked the Army’s 250th anniversary.
The protests’ alignment with theoretically “patriotic days,” such as the Fourth of July and the military parade, is an especially powerful decision, as a new Gallup poll reports a dramatic decline in national pride that is also clear among young people.
Free America Day will take place nationwide on Saturday, with several protests in New York, California, Texas, and Florida. Women’s March rallied support for the movement on X, writing, “Protest is the patriotic way to spend the 4th of July; it’s in the heart of Independence Day and paves our path forward! If you’re hosting a block party or a BBQ this 4th of July, help us protect democracy with joyful resistance!”
