Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) was treated for dehydration on Wednesday at a Washington area hospital.
The 74-year-old senator was exercising on a stationary bike at the Senate gym and reportedly felt lightheaded. According to a spokesperson, he was taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution. He returned to work that afternoon at the Capitol after receiving a clean bill of health from doctors. He later appeared at a news conference and made a speech on the Senate floor about Iran.
Chuck Schumer posted on X on Wednesday morning, stating that he spoke with Zohran Mamdani, New York City’s democratic mayoral candidate, following his win in the New York Democratic primary on Tuesday. The senator’s post read, “he ran an impressive campaign that connected with New Yorkers.”
As a record-setting heatwave grips the East Coast, Senator Schumer “wants to remind everyone to drink some water and stay out of the heat,” his spokesperson said. Temperatures are expected to remain over 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the nation’s capital over the weekend.
