On Thursday morning, the LA Dodgers denied immigration authorities access to their stadium in Los Angeles. ICE agents were turned away after they “requested permission to access the parking lots,” according to a social media post from the major league team’s official account, which also said that “tonight’s game will be played as scheduled.”

News of the federal agents’ arrival spread quickly over social media, with a number of accounts on X and other networks posting photos of the vans outside the stadium. Protesters then showed up in the area, taking up the space between the unmarked ICE vans and the entrance. NBC reports that at around 11:25 a.m. local time, police arrived in an attempt to clear a path for the federal authorities. Some time after 1:00 p.m., the vans left the area, escorted by police.

ICE’s failed attempt at entering the stadium comes as Los Angeles remains the site of intense protests against the federal agency, which kicked off on June 6th when multiple deportation raids were carried out across the city.

The Department of Homeland Security replied to the Dodgers statement on X, saying that ICE’s presence “had nothing to do with the Dodgers.” The statement continued: “CBP vehicles were in the stadium parking lot very briefly, unrelated to any operation or enforcement.”
