The entire family of the man accused of attacking pro-Israel demonstrators with makeshift incendiary weapons has been taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “Today, @DHSgov and @ICEGov are taking the family of suspected Boulder, Colorado terrorist, and illegal alien, Mohamed Soliman, into ICE custody,” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Tuesday in a social media post. “We are investigating to what extent his family knew about this heinous attack, if they had knowledge of it, or if they provided support to it.”
Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly using homemade weapons similar to molotov cocktails and flamethrowers in an attack on Zionist demonstrators calling attention to the Israeli hostages in Gaza. Eight people, ranging from the ages of 52 to 88, were admitted to local hospitals, some with severe injuries, while at least another four were burned but did not require further medical treatment. Footage from bystanders shot at the scene in downtown Boulder shows Soliman shirtless, holding two spray bottles which are alleged to have been used in the attack, shouting “End Zionists!” and “They are killers!”
Soliman has a wife and five children, and has been in the United States since August 2023. He applied for asylum after his tourist visa expired, and was granted a temporary work authorization, which also expired this year. The immigration status of Soliman’s family is not known as of this writing. A federal affidavit indicates that his wife cooperated with the FBI, turning over his iPhone shortly after he was arrested. Soliman reportedly told investigators that he had been planning the attack for over a year, and had waited for his daughter to graduate high school before he conducted the attack.
Soliman is in custody on a $10 million bond, facing attempted murder charges and a federal hate crime charge added on Monday.
