On Thursday, Donald Trump sharply attacked three judges of the Court of International Trade who had previously ruled that import duties were “illegal,” a ruling that was later temporarily suspended on appeal.
On Wednesday evening, the Court of International Trade (CIT) had ordered a temporary halt to most of the duties imposed by the U.S. administration. However, the Federal Appeals Court upheld the White House’s emergency appeal, freezing the CIT ruling “until further notice.”
This, however, did not stop the U.S. president from launching a lengthy invective via social media against the trade court magistrates.
“Where do these initial three Judges come from? How is it possible for them to have potentially done such damage to the United States of America? Is it purely a hatred of ‘TRUMP?’ What other reason could it be?” the president said, without noting that he had appointed one of the judges himself in 2018.
Trump also called the decision made by the CIT “political,” saying it could be dangerous for the country.
The president then harshly criticized a pillar of the conservative legal establishment, the Federalist Society, which has advised him on judicial appointments in the past.
“I am so disappointed in The Federalist Society because of the bad advice they gave me on numerous judicial nominations,” he said. The MAGA leader also attacked the company’s former executive vice president and current board co-chair Leonard Leo, calling him “a bad person.”
In addition to criticizing the work of the judges and the Federalist Society, the president on Thursday also wanted to thank Elon Musk for his work as secretary of the Department of Government Efficiency.
Earlier in the week, the world’s richest man announced his farewell to the White House, although in reality his term as special adviser would be expiring in a few days, on June 1st. In any case, the decision comes after Musk’s criticism of the “Big Beautiful Bill,” which he says risks undermining DOGE’s efforts to cut government spending.
Despite the latest vicissitudes, Trump said that Friday’s will be Musk’s last day in the White House, but that he will “always be with us, helping us all the way.”
As ABC reported, in addition to Musk, key DOGE officials James Burnham and Steve Davis, both Musk loyalists, will also leave the administration.
