“Putin has gone absolutely crazy” and is killing too many people; but Zelensky doesn’t please the White House either, “Everything out of his mouth causes problems.”
Welcome to Donald Trump’s summary of the Ukraine conflict; the President is clearly irritated because his campaign promise to end the war in Ukraine (and stop the U.S. spending to support Kyiv) seems further away than ever.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever,” Trump posted on Truth Social. Just a few hours before, he had told reporters much the same: “I’m not happy with what Putin is doing. He’s killing a lot of people, and I don’t know what the hell happened to Putin.”
The president, in his post, then turned his criticism toward Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who, on Sunday morning, had said that “America’s silence” encourages Putin to continue his onslaught.
“Likewise, President Zelensky is doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does,” Trump wrote. “Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
Zelensky, in social media posts on Sunday, gave details of the recent Russian attacks over the past hours, with nearly 300 attack drones and over 70 missiles of various types, including ballistic missiles. Kyiv was hit in the wave of attacks, along with 11 other regions, Zelensky said. “These were deliberate attacks on ordinary cities. Regular residential buildings were destroyed and damaged. In Kyiv, the dormitories of the university’s history department were hit,” he said. “There were also attacks on businesses. Tragically, people died, including children.”
“The world may take a break for the weekend, but the war goes on, regardless of Saturdays and Sundays. This cannot be ignored,” Zelensky said, claiming that “America’s silence, and that of other countries, only encourages Putin.”
