According to CNN polling guru Harry Enten, if the US were to have the election today, the outcome would be almost identical to that of November 2024.
Enten’s research, which analyzed a recent YouGov survey, indicated that only 2 percent of Republican voters said they would be willing to change their preference if they were again forced to choose between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
In contrast, 1% said they would prefer not to vote at all. Overall, less than 5 percent of Trump voters would consider changing their vote, Enten explained. “The bottom line is for all this talk of Trump voters regretting their vote in the numbers, it really just doesn’t show up,” he added, “If there’s some idea out there that Trump voters are going around, man, I wish I had voted for Kamala Harris instead of Donald Trump, the numbers say that is a fanciful universe. It really for the most part does not exist”.
Enten revealed that in 2017 Republican voters had a more negative opinion of the president than in 2025. “In February 2017, four percent of Trump voters said they’d shift their vote—that’s actually slightly more than this time around”, he said, “the number this time around is actually smaller than it was the first time around and it’s certainly smaller than the number we saw coming out of 2020, of course, after the events of January 6th.”
At the same time, a recent CBS poll saw the MAGA leader’s popularity plummet, particularly due to the global tariffs affair, with 54 percent of voters surveyed saying the president was responsible for the current economic recession.
However, Enten explained that the president’s current unpopularity does not automatically translate into an electoral advantage for Democrats. He also pointed to the fact that Republicans currently enjoy a rare advantage over Democrats in terms of party recognition, with a recent poll placing them at +2 percent approval rating.
