A Wisconsin teenager, Nikita Casap, 17, has been charged with killing his mother, 35-year-old Tatiana Casap, and stepfather, 51-year-old Donald Mayer, and living with their bodies for nearly two weeks, regularly driving to school in the morning. The bodies, found Feb. 28 in a decomposed state, had gunshot wounds. Alerting police was Mayer’s mother, who worriedly called the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office and requested a well check.
Casap was arrested the same day in Kansas, more than 800 miles from home, while driving his stepfather’s car with incriminating evidence, including a Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum gun belonging to Meyer, driver’s licenses of both victims, and shell casings used in the shooting. Prosecutors allege he was attempting to flee abroad.
But the crime also consists of some decidedly grisly details. Authorities investigating the murders told the media that during the search for evidence, they found a camera memory card containing video footage of Nikita Casap lighting some candles in the room where his stepfather’s body was, recording the scene of Meyer’s corpse for about a week. The 17-year-old is currently charged with first-degree intentional homicide, concealment of a corpse and other crimes including the theft of more than $10,000. His preliminary hearing is set for April 9.
