Donald Trump’s recent social attacks on New York Attorney General Letitia James have particularly outraged web users. Indeed, the president shared documents that contained the address of one of James’ properties-a move that did not go unnoticed, and one that sparked negative reactions and controversies on social media.
Many internet users claimed that Trump’s intent was to intimidate and threaten the New York official. “Posting the private information of an attorney general prosecuting you is not a legal defense, it’s intimidation, plain and simple,” wrote one follower on X, “that’s disgusting.”
Another user referred to the U.S. president as a “stochastic terrorist,” a term coined by scholars and law enforcement experts that refers to hate speech that increases the likelihood that people will violently and unpredictably attack the targets of vicious statements. “He’s basically ordering a hit and the crazies know it,” added some social media users.
According to the Meidas Touch Network, last week Trump shared a blog titled “AG Letitia James’ building permits raise serious questions,” in which questions were raised about the number of housing units on a property belonging to the official. The article included documents showing James’ previous paperwork, which included the address of the home.
Over the past few years, Trump has attacked the New York attorney general on many occasions. Back in October 2023, the MAGA leader shared an article by far-right activist Laura Loomer that included the address of James’ residence.
At the time, this raised questions about whether Trump had violated the gag-order given by Judge Arthur Engoron, who oversaw the trial at the end of which Trump would have to pay a multimillion-dollar settlement for fraudulently inflating the value of his assets to further his business needs.
The trial had been initiated by a lawsuit filed by James against Trump, his sons and his real estate company.
