According to a new poll released by CNN, most Americans don’t like President Trump’s approach to Russia and his handling of the situation in Ukraine.
In particular, 59 percent of respondents disapprove of the president’s handling of relations between Washington DC and Moscow. Some 41% said the opposite.
Nearly six in 10 also said it is “not too” or “not at all likely” that Trump’s attitude will lead to long-term peace between the two Eastern European countries.
Americans were further divided when asked whether the U.S. was providing “too much,” “too little,” or “the right amount” of aid to Ukraine. About one-third of respondents, 32 percent, argued that Washington DC is doing too much.
Nearly four in 10 individuals, 38 percent, said the U.S. is doing too little, while another 30 percent say America has provided the European country with the “right amount” of aid.
The survey, which covered more than 1,200 U.S. citizens, was conducted while Washington DC was engaged in negotiations with Ukrainian and Russian officials to reach a 30-day cease-fire agreement in hopes of ending the war that broke out in 2022.
Also this week, a further Reuters/Ipsos survey found that most Americans, about 56 percent, think Trump is too close to Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin.
In contrast, 48 percent of respondents, about 1,422 adults, agreed with the strategy adopted by the MAGA leader and supported his plan regarding trade agreements on Ukrainian mineral resources.
