The White House announced it’s going to appeal both decisions. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt attacked Judge Alsup declaring that “a single judge is attempting to unconstitutionally seize the power of hiring and firing from the Executive Branch. The President has the authority to exercise the power of the entire executive branch – singular district court judges cannot abuse the power of the entire judiciary to thwart the President’s agenda” reads her statement. “If a federal district court judge would like executive powers, they can try and run for President themselves. The Trump Administration will immediately fight back against this absurd and unconstitutional order”.
The ruling comes amid sweeping reforms led by the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, headed by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The department has been aggressively restructuring multiple agencies, citing efforts to boost productivity and eliminate waste. Thousands of federal employees were terminated for what officials described as “poor performance.” Many of those workers have challenged their dismissals in court.
The cuts impacted both recent hires and veteran employees who had recently transitioned to new roles, leaving entire teams understaffed and prompting criticism from federal employee unions and advocacy groups.
It remains unclear how quickly the affected agencies will be able to reinstate the employees or how the appeals process may affect the timeline.
