Gunfire erupted near the White House early Sunday morning when Secret Service agents shot at an armed man after a confrontation at the intersection of 17th Street and F Street NW in Washington, D.C. The incident began on Saturday, when local police received reports about an individual with suicidal intentions, allegedly traveling to Washington, D.C. from Indiana.
Secret Service agents later identified the suspect’s vehicle and observed a man on foot who matched the description. As law enforcement approached, the suspect pulled out a weapon, triggering the exchange of gunfire. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the details in a statement on X.
The suspect was quickly taken to a hospital, though his condition remains unclear. No Secret Service agents were injured during the incident, which is now under investigation to determine the circumstances and assess any potential liabilities.
