U.S. volunteers who have fought alongside their Ukrainian “colleagues” in recent years have sharply attacked President Trump for his openness toward Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
After the creation of the International Legion by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the start of the war in 2022, hundreds of U.S. veterans decided to side with Kiev.
Now, as revealed by the Telegraph, most of these have reacted furiously to the news of the private phone call between Trump and Putin last week in which the U.S. leader allegedly ruled out Kiev’s membership in NATO and admitted that Moscow might retain currently occupied Ukrainian territory.
“F— Trump and his sh—y supposed peace deal,” said Ryan O’Leary, an Iraq war veteran who leads Chosen Company, one of the largest foreign volunteer units in Ukraine, “Any peace deal is ultimately up to Ukrainians alone, who should be included directly in talks. Neither Trump nor his administration should have any say in how the war ends. Only the soldiers and the Ukrainian people should have that say, not some jackass and his jackass cabinet members sitting behind their white picket-fenced houses on a golf course.”
“Trump is a coward”, said Charles Carter, another U.S. volunteer who had previously served in the U.S. 101st Airborne Division. The latter even explained that he regretted that the U.S. president was not a victim of the attack on him last July in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Although neither the Biden administration nor the current administration has authorized U.S. citizens to travel to fight in Ukraine, volunteers who have done so have openly advocated for U.S. support for Kiev, appearing on television programs and repeatedly appealing to politicians in Washington, D.C.
Among the leading supporters of the Ukraine cause is Alex Drueke, an Iraqi veteran originally from Alabama who was captured and tortured by Russian forces in June 2022. After being freed through a prisoner exchange, the latter now plans to hold a series of rallies, during which he will not only commemorate the third anniversary of the ongoing war but also contest the election of the MAGA leader.
“The world needs to be reminded that 50 percent of us did not vote for this horrible man, who is not only destroying his country from within, but the world outside too,” Drueke said.
