A rare astronomical event is about to occur at the end of this month. It is the complete planetary alignment of Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, Mercury and Saturn although they will not all be visible to the naked eye. The alignment of the planets in our solar system–which revolve around the Sun and can all be found in the same portion of the sky visible from Earth–will take place shortly after sunset on February 28, and experts predict the phenomenon will not be repeated until at least 2040. Experts who monitor astronomical events point out that alignments of five or six planets occur with relative regularity, but alignments of seven planets, like the one expected, are very rare indeed.
The Independent quoted Christopher Barnes, a senior lecturer at the University of Derby in England, who stated that, “Even people living in cities and areas where there are many sources of electric light will be able to see most of the planets, but for the best views, it is advisable to find a darker location.” The expert further adds, “Almost all of the planets will be visible to the naked eye, with the exception of Uranus and Neptune, which will require the use of binoculars or a telescope.”
Barnes notes that taking time to observe this exceptional astronomical event can be beneficial to a person’s overall well-being. “In addition to their cultural significance, stargazing has many tangible benefits,” he said.
“Engaging with the night sky encourages mindfulness, allowing individuals to momentarily detach from daily stress and immerse themselves in the present moment. This practice can foster a sense of peace, restoration and perspective.”
