At 10:57 this morning, police were called to the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, which was the site of a school shooting that left 3 dead and at least 6 more injured. A teacher and a teenage student are among the dead, and two of the wounded are facing life-threatening injuries, according to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes. Authorities say that they found the individual whom they suspect to be the shooter, a teenager who was a student at the school, dead on the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, along with the other victims.
In the last few minutes we have learned that in what is almost an unprecedented case, the shooter was a female student.The FBI and ATF are assisting local authorities’ response to the shooting.
Abundant Life Christian School is a K-12 school that has over 300 students and around 50 members of staff. The school’s website states that they accept “students and families from every background.” The school has published a statement on its Facebook account that reads: “Prayers Requested! Today, we had an active shooter incident at ALCS. We are in the midst of following up. We will share information as we are able. Please pray for our Challenger Family.”
“I am on record that we need to do better in our country, in our community to prevent gun violence and I hoped this day would never come to Madison,” said Madison Mayor Satyah Rhodes-Conway in a press conference this afternoon. “And so I will ask our entire community and our entire country to do whatever we can to ensure that no public official ever has to stand in this position again.”
