The wedding day of two young people in South Carolina ended in tragedy when a drunken woman driving recklessly–well over the speed limit–lost control of her car and violently ran over the golf cart in which the bride and groom were seated as they celebrated their beach wedding, sending it flying a whopping 91 feet. The bride, Samantha Miller, was 34 years old and passed away still wearing her wedding dress. Groom Aric Hutchinson, on the other hand, suffered severe brain injury and numerous broken bones.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jamie Lee Komoroski pleaded guilty to murder before a Charleston County Circuit Court judge and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Police reported that the woman had been drinking excessively at several bars on the evening of April 28, 2023, and yet she was driving her car speeding at over 60 miles per hour on a road where the limit is set by law is 25 miles per hour. After the accident, officers were able to determine that Jamie’s blood alcohol level was more than three times the limit legally allowed for driving a vehicle.
“On the golf cart, she told me she wanted the night not to end and I kissed her on the forehead. Then, the only thing I remember after that is waking up in the hospital,” said Hutchinson, who also continues to undergo medical examinations and therapy to be able to overcome severe trauma and anguish he suffered from the accident.
“I wish I could go back and undo this terrible tragedy. But I can’t. I will live the rest of my life with intense regret for what happened that night,” Komoroski said.
