In Florence from December 2024 to June 2025 tourists and visitors will have the opportunity to see the “unseen” rooms of Palazzo Vecchio by booking one of seven available dates with free admission.
“Being able to visit places in the municipal palace that are not part of the museum itinerary but are rich in charm and history is an extraordinary opportunity to enter the heart of the Palace and get to know its lesser-known corners,” says Culture Councillor Giovanni Bettarini. ”For this reason, we wanted offer the public the opportunity to explore the political history of Florence through these often little-known rooms.”
Palazzo Vecchio announced that the rooms that visitors will be able to admire, accompanied by a guide, are the those known as Firenze Capitale, the magnificent Sala Rossa and the apartment, created out of available space in 1860, where the Baron Bettino Ricasoli, then governor of Tuscany stayed. Today, these rooms house municipal offices but still retain all the charm of the history of one of Italy’s most important and celebrated cities rich in culture.
This initiative was supported through the efforts of the association “Friends of Florentine Museums and Monuments” with the aim of sharing, even with future generations, the history of the city. In this regard they emphasize, “the monuments support us in our efforts to make history accessible, so as to create a valuable link between Florence’s past and present, especially in the younger generations.”
