Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have reportedly left the United States in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election. According to sources cited by TMZ, the couple decided to leave the country shortly after the election, feeling deeply unsettled by the political outcome.
The pair, known for their long-standing commitment to progressive causes, have reportedly moved to a newly purchased home in the picturesque Cotswolds region of South West England, about a two-hour drive from London. TMZ revealed that the couple had secured the property prior to the election, seemingly preparing for the possibility of a major life change.
As part of their relocation, DeGeneres and de Rossi are said to be planning to sell their Montecito, California, residence, which they have owned for several years. Representatives for the couple have not yet responded to inquiries about the move.
DeGeneres and her wife, whom she married in 2008, have been visible supporters of Vice President Harris, endorsing her publicly on Instagram and contributing $3,300 to Harris’s campaign earlier this year. In an August post, DeGeneres praised Harris, writing that “There’s nothing more important than fighting for democracy.”
Reportedly, the former host of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” has already fully integrated herself west of the Atlantic and has been spotted at numerous exclusive parties, also paying a visit to the Farmers Dog pub owned by former Top Gear face Jeremy Clarkson.
Eva Longoria is also expected to leave the states. The Desperate Housewives actress, according to whom Trump’s return to the White House would make the United States a “scary place,” said that in the near future she will split her time between Spain and Mexico, her husband’s home country.
The Mediterranean may soon also welcome Sharon Stone, who is reportedly considering a move to Italy. In July, the Basic Instinct actress had already accused Trump of running “on a platform of hate and oppression.”
More strident is British actress Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, who recently vowed to “get the f**k out” and return to the UK.
Cher, who has never hidden her political views against the president, has also threatened to leave several times. In a 2023 interview with the Guardian, the singer explained that she is terrified of Trump’s return to the White House, which for her would represent the culmination of a disastrous political and social period, especially for trans people’s rights.
