President-elect Donald Trump confirmed in a post on Truth Social that he would have everything ready to declare a “national emergency” to deport illegal migrants with the military from the first day back in the White House.
Trump reportedly re-posted and confirmed a comment made by Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, a group that “investigates and prosecutes government corruption.” The activist claims that “the incoming administration is ready to declare a national emergency and will use military means to reverse Biden’s invasion through a mass deportation program,” the Truth Social post reads.
The president-elect responded with a “true” in big letters.
Immigration was one of Trump’s key campaign issues, perhaps the main reason he won the election. By declaring a “national emergency,” the president-elect would be able to redirect military funds and resources toward detaining and removing migrants. Some funding earmarked for the Pentagon would go toward the cost of the wall on the southern border.
Inside sources refer to about 1.3 million illegal immigrants who have already received final deportation orders or who have criminal convictions or charges and who would be the first to be deported if the national state of emergency is approved. But Trump’s plan would not be limited to just these: it could extend to all those who have not yet been granted political asylum.
In the United States, there are about 13 million undocumented people; they represent a total of $315 billion needed to implement this project, according to data from the American Immigration Council.
It is not just about the cost of implementing a project of this magnitude. Certain key sectors function only because of the labor of immigrants, a good portion of whom are undocumented. Some economists predict an increase in the prices of goods and services, leading to higher inflation, and a reduction in employment rates.
